Israel - Palestine

My current events class just began studying both sides of the Israeli/Palestinian debate, which mostly centers around who has the territorial rights to Jerusalem.

My own family is Hebrew, which probably influences my opinions on the subject. It is my opinion that the state of Israel has a right to exist, and therefore a right to defend itself from attacks. Israel is a country recognized by the European Union, unlike Palestine (while not recognized as a country, it does have observer status).

I would like to hear everybody's opinion on the subject. Please keep things polite, I understand that this can become a fairly emotional topic. Thank you, and have at ye!
