Untold numbers of hot young things flock to Hollywood each year in hopes of becoming the next Angelina Jolie or Gwyneth Paltrow. Most don?t make it. Instead, those who can?t act, but are willing to inject silicone into various body parts, join the casts of reality TV shows. Case in point, Alexis Bellino, who joined up with ?The Real Housewives of Orange County? during season five. For some godforsaken reason, voyeurs enjoy watching these high maintenance ladies bicker over their designer stilettos.
In Alexis Bellino?s spare time, when she isn?t kicking back by the pool, she likes to pour salt and pepper all over her desserts. An unusual hobby, perhaps, but it helps her cut calories. After serving her guests dessert, she ruins hers in order to prevent herself from eating it. The problem with this is that Alexis really doesn?t have any spare calories in her diet to cut. For years, she?s been battling anorexia and bulimia. Alexis Bellino has also copped to laxative abuse. Like fellow laxative abusers Petra Nemcova and Tracey Gold, drastic overuse of these OTC meds places Bellino at risk for electrolyte imbalances, which can lead to irregular heartbeat and blood pressure abnormalities.
Alexis Bellino confessed that she developed anorexia when she was 12 years old, after her parents divorced. In retrospect, Alexis realizes that it was a way for her to control herself while her family life fell apart. Instead of eating a meal, she would eat precisely 10 Cheerios or a piece of lettuce. In college, Alexis also began purging after meals.
These days, Alexis Bellino has made progress on overcoming her eating disorder, but she acknowledges that it?s a lifelong struggle. In addition to sabotaging her desserts, Alexis still severely restricts her calories. On a typical day, she?ll drink a cappuccino for breakfast and eat some grapefruit, which is a very low-calorie food. Half of a medium-sized grapefruit has about 40 calories.
For lunch, Alexis Bellino typically eats half of a sandwich. Sometimes, she?ll skip the sandwich and eat a bowl of soup instead. For dinner, she?ll usually eat a lean chicken breast or a steak. She doesn?t appear to pair the chicken or steak with any sides. Recovering anorexics often benefit from selecting nutrient-dense, high-calorie foods, like nutritional drinks. Another tactic to sneak in some healthy calories is to select a large salad, filled with lots of different ingredients like avocados, dried fruits, whole grain croutons, cooked quinoa, and grilled chicken or tuna.
Fans of ?The Real Housewives of Orange County? have probably noted the long hours Alexis Bellino spends at the gym. Alexis loves to exercise (possibly to the point of addiction?) and uses it for stress relief. She usually runs five miles about three to four times per week. Alexis also fits in one day per week of weight lifting, a YAS (yoga and spin) class once per week, and a ballet-type class one to two days per week.
