MILWAUKEE (WITI) ? Thousands of people laced up Saturday, May 4th for the 18th Annual American Cancer Society?s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
A sea of pink flair could be seen all along the lakefront Saturday morning.
?We all know somebody who has cancer or has died or survived from cancer. It impacts every family,? said Sandra Arkens Senins.
As they shared their stories and encouraged each other, more than 7,000 supporters and survivors walked at Veterans Park as part of a united journey to end breast cancer.
Survivor, Kelly Krohn said, ?I woke up this morning and just started crying. It makes me sad and it makes me happy. It brings so much joy and sorrow at the same time.?
Krohn is understandably emotional. For her and many others it was humbling to celebrate survivors while honoring those who have lost the battle. She wants to help the fight in any way she can and is part of one of the leading fundraising teams with almost $8,000.
?We can raise funds for mammograms that are needed for people who can?t afford it,? added Krohn.
Event organizer Cody Allen said every penny counts. ?A majority of the money will go toward research and a lot of our hope lodges throughout the division which are lodging for all our cancer patients traveling for treatment with their families,? Allen said.
Beating the potentially deadly disease is a milestone all on its own. But the true victory comes in future research.
?We?re going to find a cure. We?re definitely going to find a cure,? said Krohn.
The goal this year is to raise $500,000. Fox6 News also helped contribute to the fundraiser, as a sponsor of the event. If you?didn?t?get to walk but would still like to donate CLICK HERE.?
